Muscle beaver.

Really vibrant colours used for these funky poster designs, made for 90's rap parties, colour is a key to the aesthetic for our project, we need to pick colours that stand out and have high impact we have decided not to go too bright thou as to not come across tacky. We would still like to design a sophisticated considered aesthetic as to not draw in the wrong crowd.

ARK.

Amazingly inspirational flyer artwork found by Dom, he already blogged these earlier but I couldn't help but blog them again, the colour choice and simple imagery creates a high impact considered design, they also utilise patterns in their designs, most probably related to house music, similar to our ideas, omething me and Dom know is necessary for our Loco project. I can't wait to see the final result as we're already coming up with some gorgeous aesthetics, if I do say so myself.

The logo is also something to look at, really contemporary creating movement and energy from simple type customisation.

Record labels.

Focusing now on record labels as our client would like to eventually extend the night to it's own record label, we need to consider how the logo would look applied across that area also, so the logo will need to be a combination of both experimental and contemporary.

Today I took out a few books from the library to gather context research for Loco, the books were focusing on album artworks and flyers from the past, they contained some beautiful imagery ranging from geometrics to abstract art, all of which creates high impact through simple colour choice and layout.

Loco Concept.

A couple of weeks ago me and Dom my collaborative partner for our brief 'LOCO' watched a few episodes of 'Through the worm hole' a series that explores theories of future technologies and scenarios whilst also looking into the latest breakthroughs in science.

The episode we watched 'Mysteries of the subconscious' led us to develop a concept for the artwork that would be used to promote the night, the images below show graphs recorded by computers showing interesting brain activity on a patient, with the night being called LOCO, translating to madness we decided this would be great as modern day clubbing has a touch of madness to it compared to normal social events. Dom will further investigation into this and create the artwork for the night whilst i focus on the logo.

Pet shop boys.

Farrow design created the aesthetics for this album cover based on all the colours used for previous album covers, me and Dom discussed create the visuals for the loco art work based on the previous nights and possibly the idea of a colour theme for each night based on the artist or the time of year, we're not sure yet.

Cocoon

Lovely typographic work used within these Cocoon posters, an electronic music night set up in Leeds, the movement created with the use of type is something I need to create for the logo, we want to create an aesthetic that looks structured but at the same time contains a lot of character and movement. The logo needs to represent the night which is very experimental and 'funky'. The vibrancy also does a lot for these posters and flyers although we will be creating our own artwork rather than using images from space, this will give our project more individuality.

Some brilliant inspiration from Jamesh Connolly's blog, just the kind of artwork we want to create for loco, a glitchey digital aesthetic, the night is themed to be abstract and interesting so me and Dom decided to be extremely experimental with our designs for this project.

Record Labels.

Begining to research logo's for records labels, our client Ross has asked us to create a logo for the night he is setting up in order to apply it over our product range, such as; Posters, Flyers, t shirts, artwork, album artwork, website etc, record label logo's are usually sleek and simple and i would like to apply this aesthetic to our logo.

It seems the majority of record labels focus mainly on typography for their logo's i will experiment with visuals as well as type but i feel communicating the brand name across is more important than a few extra visuals, i will explore creating my own typeface as part of this project.

Loco Flyers.

Having had two meetings with our client, Ross Muir, we have an idea of what direction we will be taking this brief, Ross is really enthusiastic and gives a good positive vibe for this project letting us know specifically what he wants and at the same time allowing us to develop our own ideas to coincide with his thoughts.

We began by going out and collecting as many flyers as possible as this will be one of the main deliverables and where we start the platform for building artwork, the majority of flyers we found (around 90%) were terrible but 10% began to give us some good ideas and got the creativity flowing.

Photography.

Whilst thinking about our deliverables and product range we decided a good aspect for a poster would be photography and taking into consideration the abstract characteristic of this project it's only fitting that we keep with this trend throughout, i have found a series of different photographers that all create dynamic creative images from the simplest of things, this is also linked with the music that will be at the night. House music is a very simple form of music, it uses basic repeated beats throughout and has a patterned structure.

Patterns will be another main area of focus whilst creating visuals as it is a key component in the genre.

Davy Evans.

After continuing my research on abstract artwork and forms, my collaborative partner Yafet came across this photographer and his beautiful work, he uses various techniques with deep constructed concepts to create fascinating natural structures and forms this first video is a piece inspired by the oil spill whereby Davy used typical house hold chemicals to see how they reacted with one and other, here is the out come.

Richard Robinson.

Again going down the lines of abstract and experimental ideas, Richard Robinson creates striking visuals for each album using vibrant colour pallets and expressive compositions in order to reflect the music produced by the artist, he really hits the nail on the head and manages to create completely different concepts and ideas for each.

These albums are the most relevant due to the variation of techniques used to and the feel of the aesthetics created.

The XX

The xx have always used interesting aesthetics in their designs and also quite abstract which reflects the music they produce, this is similar to the effect i would like to give, re creating the feel of music played on the night with experimental aesthetics, also Ross has decided he would like to set up an exhibition running along side the night in a separate room in the same club, which would give us a chance to create work according to the feel of the room.

We will try to create a symbol for the art work and repeat the symbol over each flyer using different techniques for each night.

Flux

Starting my secondary with 'Flux' another house night in Leeds set up by a few other friends, this night has really taken off in Leeds and become very popular, the visuals for the flyers are spot on as well, the geometric aesthetic is something i would like to incorporate into my designs but with a more abstract twist in order to utilize my other skills, also the colour use within these designs is great.

Another area we focused on was Vinyl artwork, the aesthetics of the vinyl artwork we found seemed to be perfect for the direction we would like to take this project, a lot of abstract pieces and very experimental, our client also said that 'LOCO' would be expanding into much more areas than just a night, he would also like LOCO to become; A clothing range, a record label, an exhibition and possibly more, this is a good thing for me and my collaborative partner Yafet because this gives us the opportunity to create more deliverables.
